They Don’t Make ‘Em Like That Anymore

Szent István (Saint Stephen) is, as Ron Burgundy would say, kind of a big deal here. As the first king of Hungary, he established Christianity throughout the region, and you can’t go very far in town without seeing something named for him, including the park where we live.

The must-see Szent István landmark in Budapest is St. Stephen’s  Basilica, however. Anyone traveling Europe will tell you that, after awhile, one cathedral starts to look like another, but wow. It’s pretty spectacular.

It will be interesting to see if the current trend in the US of more functional, culture-reflecting worship spaces ends up being the new normal, or if it turns out to be a detour on our collective journey to reach up to God.
